All my plans for this space have been short-circuited somewhat by the tremendous lesson in situational irony unfolding in the White House (and at Walter Reed) right now, but I take comfort in the evidence that Republicans can’t figure out their take on events, either. Here’s a sampling of the spin unfolding now across conservative media:
1. Precautions (which Washington Democrats have taken and we largely have not) clearly do nothing
2. Why aren’t any Democrats in Washington succumbing to this outbreak? Conspiracy? Suspicious.
3. It’s no big deal! The President said so! See, he’s fine!
4. Can we really trust Joe Biden, who has not suffered as heroic Trump has from this pestilence?
5. Covid-19 is a nothingburger, totally non-serious, and any deaths are the acceptable price of Freedomtm.
6. How dare you joke/express relief/hope/ponder the irony of this, you leftist monsters, the President could DIE!
